PANACEA Network held a 2nd meeting in Madrid, hosted by Spanish Coops (Cooperativas Agroalimentarias). The meeting focused on the review of the progress on the first 8 months of the project and the planning of upcoming activities.
We are glad thus to report the upcoming activities and events for the next months:
UNIBO has already identified a list of R&I projects from the last years focusing on Non-Food Crops (NFC). So far, results linked to 93 different NFC have been identified, which are being analysed at present time, and first results will become available in November 2018. This inventory will be updated all along the project. The assessment of the NFC taking into consideration technical, economic, social environmental aspects will follow in 2019. Further information on this link.
PANACEA is still gathering feedback from farmers and bio-industries’ needs vis a vis NFC as feedstock and raw material. You can still contribute until the end of October 2018, filling in the Farmers and Bio-based Industries questionnaires. Wageningen Research will exploit results from questionnaires and findings made public by the end of 2018.
Following the successful first 2 Value Chain Events held by CRES in Greece in March and May 2018, PANACEA partners are planning for the next semester the first wave of Value Chain Events in PANACEA countries:
- September 2018: Poland.
- October 2018: Poland and Italy (October 27 & 28, in Milan, focusing on hemp).
- November 2018: Poland and Italy (November 7-11, Bologna, during EIMA International 2018).
- December 2018: France focusing on biomass sorghum & biorefineries.
Stay tuned to our Events section on website and social media, where these events will be disseminated.
PANACEA will also hold in mid-March the first of three EU wide Value Chain Events in mid-March in Paris, France. The event will be jointly organized with MAGIC and COSMOS projects and will be the perfect venue for producers and bio-based industries to meet and get to know successful cases about non-food oilseed crops such as camelina, crambe, safflower, castor, cuphea, etc. as well as several specialty crops for value-added biochemicals and biomaterials. Information about the event, to be organized by ACTA, ARVALIS, Terres Univia and Arkema, with CRES, will be available in the last quarter of 2018.
We are also glad to report that a comprehensive exercise in the identification of actors relevant in the NFC and bioeconomy fields has been conducted by partners under Imperial College London’s coordination, as a first step to build a Multi-Actor Forum. You can check the overview of identified stakeholders in this link. If you are interested to get further information PANACEA and about new NFC Value Chain, you can join our community, by filling in the Stakeholders Feedback Facility in our Community.
On the PANACEA Training strand, Imperial College London, ACTA and Spanish Coops have already started planning the development of training materials aimed at agronomists, farmers and agricultural students. Materials will be available at the start of 2019 where training sessions will be held with referred target groups.
Finally, we can report that the PANACEA Platform is under development by Agricultural University of Athens, to become online on November 2018, with a first batch of services and functionalities, including access and information to the R&I projects database and trials experience identified by PANACEA in all EU countries. This will allow interested farmers or bio-based industries to identify and contact successful cases in the NFC and country of their choice.
